As far as his education goes, he started attending the Second Baptist High school in Houston in 1984. After that he went on to attend the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs that belongs to Princeton University where he got a degree in Public Policy. After that he went on to attend Harvard Law School and got a degree there too.
Career
He started his career as a law clerk for J. Michael Luttig and after that he was a clerk of William Rehnquist. He was an ice breaker, since he was the first Hispanic person to work as a clerk for a Chief Justice of the US. After that he did some work with Cooper & Kirk, LLC and that is where he got a lot of experience as far as politics goes because he did lot of work on preparing the testimony against Bill Clinton when he was being impeached. All that experience paid off because in 1999 he was hired to work on George W. Bush’s presidential campaign.
What he did in the campaign was domestic policy advice, so it was directly connected to what he did at university. Of course Bush ended up winning and Cruz’s bet paid off, he became the US Justice Department’s associate deputy attorney general.
After a short gig at the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission he went on to become the Solicitor General of Texas and that’s what he did for five years from 2003 to 2008. After that he was nominated for the Republican senate in Texas and as everyone now knows, he won. That also gave him the experience and confidence to run for president in 2016 but didn’t end up being the last Republican nominee.
