Style guru, teacher, mentor and now judge on Project Runway Tim Gunn is worth an estimated $10 million in 2013. The style expert known for his stoic yet lovable personality earns $1 million in season 12 of the hit television series. The show broke records when it premiered in Lifetime becoming the networks highest rated series ever. Before being coined by millions of viewers of television’s most stylish man Gunn was the chair of the fashion design department at Parsons. He taught at the school for 10 years in textile, sewing, and design before being rewarded the position. Today his celebrity has made him the face of several major brands including HP Computers. Most recently he was paid $200,000 for a one year contract with Nespresso. He has also published several books including A Guide To Quality Taste and Style. Gunn was paid $1 million for the publishing deal.
Gunn was born in Washington D.C. in 1953. The 69 year old had an intense childhood with struggles surrounding his sexuality. His family was homophobic which lead him to hide his sexuality. As a teen he attempted to commit suicide by swallowing 100 pills which lead to a drug overdose leaving him hospitalized for 5 days. Before being introduced to fashion Gunn was an FBI Agent under the J. Edgar Hoover administration. It wasn’t until he finished his studies in Sculpture at Corcoran College of Art and Design that he translated his creativity into fashion.
Tim currently lives in New York city. He has been single since he and his ex separated in the 1980’s. Gunn claims that he is now asexual and doesn’t plan on being in another relationship.
